Sr, a town of France, department of Haute Marne, arrondissement of Vassey, and 9 miles N. of the town of that name. It stands on the right bank of the Marne, which is here crossed by a bridge and begins to be navigable. St Dizier is surrounded by old walls, and is a handsome town. It has an elegant town-hall of recent construction, a hospital, a ruined castle, ship-building yards, iron foundries, cotton factories, and a considerable trade in wood. In 1544 it sustained a memorable siege by Charles V.; and here in 1814 the French forces twice defeated a part of the allied army. Pop. 6450.
