a market-town of Ireland, county of Cork, on the Brandon, near the junction of the three streams which form that river, 33 miles W. by S. of Cork. Pop. (1851) 2222. It has two Episcopal churches, a Roman Catholic and a Methodist chapel, and a bridewell. The linen trade, formerly rather flourishing, has declined; but tanning and brewing and the corn trade are actively carried on.
