or EINBECK, a town of Hanover, capital of the principality of Grubenhagen, in the landrost of Hildesheim on the Ilme, 39 miles S. by E. of Hanover. Pop. about 5700. It is inclosed by old walls and ditches, and is generally ill-built and dirty. Alexander's church contains numerous monuments of the dukes of Grubenhagen. Einbeck was formerly celebrated for its beer, and it still has some breweries; but the chief manufactures are linen and woollen stuffs, stockings, leather, and chemical products. It has an active trade in flax and agricultural produce.
