a river of the United States of North America, rising in the N. of North Carolina, and flowing in a N.N.W. direction through Virginia to its mouth in the Ohio, at Point Pleasant, 252 miles below Pittsburg. It is about 300 miles in length, and is navigable for steamers to Charleston, 60 miles from its mouth.
