the name of two brothers of distinguished fame in the history of Hungarian literature. Sandor, or Alexander Kisfaludy, was born at Sümeg, in the county of Szalad, in 1772, and died there in 1844. His countrymen are unanimous in assigning to him the highest place among the modern lyists of Hungary. His younger brother, Karoly or Charles, was born at Tete in 1788, and died in 1830, at the early age of 42. He attained in tragedy a distinction similar to that which his brother achieved in lyric poetry. See HUNGARY, § Literature.
