(the ancient Azzanum), a town of Naples, province of Abruzzo-Citera, 6 miles from the Adriatic, and 13 miles S.E. from Chieti. Its commerce, though once extensive, is now comparatively small. The chief buildings are, the archbishop's palace, cathedral, and several of the parish churches and convents. It has an ecclesiastical seminary, and some other schools. Pop. 14,250.
