a town of Hanover, landdrostei of Aurich, on the Leida, about a mile above its junction with the Ems, and 14 miles S.S.E. of Emden. Vessels of 150 tons burden come up to the town, and hence a considerable traffic is carried on, chiefly in agricultural produce. Chief manufactures, linen, hosiery, soap, beer, vinegar, and brandy. Pop. 6500.
