MEDIASCH, or MEDWISCH, a royal free town of Transylvania, capital of a district of the same name, stands on the left bank of the Great Koked, 38 miles E. of Carlshurg. It is surrounded by walls, with six gates; and has a Roman Catholic, Calvinistic, and Greek churches, a Franciscan monastery, and a gymnasium with small library. It has some trade in wine, the produce of the district. Pop. 6200.
