a market-town of England, county of Suffolk, on the Lark, 70 miles N.N.E. from London. The town is irregularly laid out, but the houses are generally well built. The parish church is a large and handsome edifice, with a richly carved roof and a lofty tower. The inhabitants are chiefly engaged in agriculture, and by means of the Lark, which is here navigable, there is some trade. Pop. of parish (1851) 4374.
