a town of Russia, in the government of Poltava, situated on the Khorol, about 50 miles N.W. of the town of Poltava. It contains three churches, and is the principal seat of the ecclesiastical dignitaries of the government. It has an extensive trade in earthenware and other articles; and five annual fairs are held here, which are of considerable importance. Pop. (1852) 8951.
