a small island in the Malay Archipelago, S. of Gilolo; S. Lat. 1° 30', E. Long. 127° 50'. It is about 50 miles in length, and varies from 10 to 20 in breadth. It has lofty mountains and dense woods, and yields spices and sago. The Dutch have a settlement at the west end; and near this is another island called Little Oby.
