a town of British India, in Scinde, stands in the Eastern Desert, 90 miles E. of Hyderabad, N. Lat. 25° 22', E. Long. 69° 47'. Near the town is a fort 500 feet square, defended by mud walls and by numerous towers. Omercote was taken in 1813 by the ameers of Scinde from the Rajah of Joudpoor, and is the birth-place of the renowned Emperor Akbar.
