or Lossini, an island of Austria, in the circle of Trieste, Illyria, lies to the S.W. of the island of Cherso, with which it is connected by a bridge; area, 68 square miles. The inhabitants cultivate vines, olives, and fruit trees, rear sheep, and catch fish. The principal town is Lossini Piccolo, with the chief harbour in the island. It has distilleries, and a considerable trade in wine. Pop. 5179. The other towns are Lossini Grande (pop. 2389); and Osero (pop. 1157). Pop. of the island, 10,600.
