a town of Lower Austria, on the Wien, 3 miles W. of Vienna. It contains many fine villas, a parish church, barracks, and a bathing establishment. Cotton and silk stuffs are manufactured. Pop. 4135.

PEPIN D'HERISTAL, surnamed Le Gros, the ancestor of the Carlovingian line of French kings, became "Mayor of the Palace" in 679, and in that capacity was virtually the head of the Frankish monarchy till his death in 714. (See FRANCE.)
