a town of Wurtemberg, circle of the Danube, in the midst of vine-clad hills, on the Schussen, 22 miles E.N.E. of Constance. It has an antique appearance, and is encircled with embattled walls and towers of various form. From the Veitsburg, a height once occupied by a castle of the Guelph family, a magnificent view is obtained of the Lake of Constance and the Swiss Alps. The town contains a town-hall, many churches, convents, hospitals, &c. Manufactures of beer, silk, flax, worsted, paper, and other articles are carried on. The trade too is very extensive. Pop. 5500.
