a town of the Austrian Empire, Galicia, capital of a circle, on the left bank of the Sereth, 75 miles E.S.E. of Lemberg. It is generally well built, and contains several very handsome houses. The inhabitants are chiefly employed in agriculture, but tanning is also carried on to some extent. An important horse-market is held here, and an active trade is carried on. Pop. 16,510.
