a parish of England, Essex, on the Thames, opposite Gravesend. There are still to be seen some traces of the camp formed here by Queen Elizabeth in 1588. Tilbury Fort, which was first erected in the reign of Henry VIII., was made a regular fortification in 1667, and has since been much strengthened, so as to be now a formidable work, especially on the side of the river.
