a village of Scotland, Clackmannanshire, on the Devon, 9 miles E. of Stirling. It is for the most part substantially built of whinstone, and contains places of worship belonging to the Established Church, the Free Church, the United Presbyterians, and the Independents, besides numerous schools. It is chiefly remarkable for its manufactures of tartan shawls and plaids, which consumed in 1850 about 1,200,000 lbs. of wool, and employed 1750 hands. Pop. 3217.
