a town of the Austrian empire, in the Military Frontier of the Hungarian Banat, county of Temes, on the Nera, 56 miles S.S.E. of Temesvar. It has Roman Catholic and Greek churches, a school, hospital, and barracks. The neighbouring country is beautiful, and occupied chiefly with gardens and vineyards. The making of wine and spinning of silk are the principal occupations of the people, and there is a considerable trade. Pop. 6313.
