AIZOON

Volume 1 · 102 words · 1778 Edition

called by Mr. Miller sempervirens; though the name Aizoon has been by some writers applied to the house-leek, and also to the aloes: A genus of the pentagynia order, belonging to the icofandrae clasps of plants. Linnæus mentions three species; the canariense, hispanicum, and piniculatum. The first is a native of the Canary islands, the second of Spain, and the third of the Cape of Good Hope. They may all be raised in this country on hot-beds; but as they are not at all remarkable either for beauty or any other property, we reckon it unnecessary to take further notice of them.
