URALSK, a town of European Russia, in the government and 155 miles W.S.W. of Orenburg, on the Ural. It is a large place, entirely built of wood, and surrounded by palisades and irregular ramparts. There are here five churches, several government offices, and various factories. Uralsk is the chief seat of the Ural Cossacks, and the residence of their attaman or chief.
